Ever since my ex left me and the elders bungled the "help" they gave me this has been a big issue with me. These men who claim to be appointed by holy spirit and are God's mouth peice on earth are making a mess of things.
What a collosal mistake to tell an abused woman (or man for that matter) to stay with their mate. What? do they want you to stay until he kills you? And then to top it all off, they torture anyone who breaks out of the mold and has the backbone to get out.
IMO, if you don't have any idea of the issue, you should just say so instead of faking it and screwing things up worse. Don't make claims you can't fulfill. These people are so ill equipped to handle child abuse and molestation and serious abuse cases. And still they go on trying. It is sickening to me. I wonder how many people have suffered greatly because of their bungling?
Oh well, I could go on and on, but everyone gets the point.
They need to stop messing with things they know nothing about and allow individuals to make decisions about their own well being. And encourage professional help. Instead of continuing to ruin peoples lives.

Elders- "Trained or UnTrained- WHICH IS IT??
by JT inthe biggest error wt has continued to make for the last 120yrs is they leave a wonderful paper trail behind - where a serious student of study will have no problem following and seeing that so many of their lofty claims simply don't fly .
case in point - are the elders trained or untrained clergymen as it were?.
well for those of you who have never served as an elder allow me to share with you what elders are told about their training.

Third and Lurker,
Thanks so much for sharing. I think that ex JW's are shining examples of survivors. And many seem to make the most of their lives. Always makes me feel good to hear about it.
Keep up the good work!

Classical Music
by RedhorseWoman inlast weekend i was enjoying a sarah mclachlan marathon, this weekend it was kenny wayne shepherd and any other blues/rock i could locate.. while indulging in the music that i love, i started thinking about the "gold old jw days", and i remembered listening to the rite of spring by stravinsky, as well as many other classical works when i was younger.. i was transported to a magical, mythical place, and i would frequently put together my own dance routines to accompany the music (since i wasn't allowed to go to dance class).
then came the "warnings" from brooklyn about the pagan themes surrounding many classical works.
the rite of spring was specifically mentioned as one that could turn the good jw into a foaming, demon-inhabited monster.. destroyers of dreams, creators of the mundane--how could i have allowed them to strip my life of all the beautiful things?

Seven,
That was a beautiful clip. Just that little bit moved me. I'll have to check out getting that. I like opera too.
RHW,
The only one that comes to mind immediately is Gordon Lightfoot. If you don't have any, get Gord's Gold first. It is wonderful. I'll check out our blues collection and tell you later. Too early in the morning to think

Who's to blame?
by ozziepost inwhen viv mouritz , former branch coordinator in australia, addressed the special meeting of sydney and surrounding area congregations at the superdome last weekend, he blamed the young witnesses who were leaving "the truth" for the drop in numbers in australia.. at the service meeting this week in one sydney congregation it was announced by a bethel elder that the elders have been told (as if they didn't know already!
) that 2,000 have left "the truth" in the past two years in australia.
this typical congregation of 120 publishers has lost 19 inactive since 1999.. the march 2001 issue of kingdom ministry (australian edition) gives the number of publishers for december as 58,426, pioneers 3,315 and 19 baptized.. in dec '98 there were 58,706 pubs, and in dec '99 there were 58,000.. with 1,600-1,800 being baptized each year, there is indeeed a 2,000 shortfall.. so, who's to blame?

How openminded are you now?
by DannyBear injudgemental and closeminded were exact descriptions of my former jw self.. recently on another forum, someone posted a cartoon depicting the character urinating on the bible.
i had an immediate revulsion and concluded this was not appropriate, letting the poster know my thoughts.
other's on the forum did not see it as i did.

Danny,
I have a lot of jumbled thoughts rolling around in my head right now. I will try to make sense of them.
Tolerance and open-minds go hand in hand I think. Neyank was correct, IMO, in statingOpenminded: Free from prejudiced conclusions.; amenable to reason; receptive
, I believe that came from a dictionary?
But just because we are tolerant and open minded doesn't mean we have to accept everything thrust upon our senses. It just means that we can listen to things without going crazy and berating the person who presents it. It does not mean we have to accept everything we see and hear. And sometimes, we have to say what we feel about something. That is where the other person's open-mindedness and tolerance comes in.
I think the Society warps that perspective in us. They give us a black and white code to follow. Where in reality, many things are gray.
Hope this made sense. I know what I want to say, but some days the words just don't flow.

RHW,
Too cool!! Thinker and I love the blues and just about everything else under the sun. Thank God, I never let the Society rule my music. And giving my parents credit where credit is due, they introduced us to all kinds of music growing up!!
Didn't know anyone else here listened to Kenny Wayne Shepherd. He is a great. We love Sarah too!! Get yourself some Natalie Merchant. She has a song called Jezebel that I absolutely love.
Do let the waves roll over you and encompass you!! Music is like love and cooking, it should be enjoyed regularly and with reckless abandon.
Stole that from the Dalai Lama.
ENJOY!!!!!
